OZONE HISTORY:

Ozone, sometimes called active oxygen, is made up of three oxygen atoms. Ozone is a natural purifier and one of nature’s basic elements. Ozone is produced in nature when ultraviolet rays from the sun penetrate oxygen molecules. When this occurs high in the atmosphere, it creates what is known as the “ozone layer.” Because oxygen molecules absorb the sun’s energy, living things on Earth are protected from the harmful and potentially carcinogenic effects of the sun’s rays. Nature also produces ozone near the earth’s surface, especially during thunderstorms. The sweet, fresh smell after a storm is the smell of ozone gas.

Ozone destroys viruses, bacteria, and virtually all other forms of microbes, and also removes chemical contaminants. It does so both in the air and in the water and without the use of chemical additives of any kind.

The use of ozone as a water purifier was discovered in the 1800s in the Netherlands. The first massive use was in France, when it was used to purify drinking water for the entire city of Nice. Today many water treatment companies use ozone systems to purify drinking water. Also, most bottled water plants use ozone as part of their water purification process.
